Description and synopsis

The first film as director from the successful singer and actress Ana Belén, she chose the adaptation of a best seller by the writer and journalist, also Spanish, Carmen Rico Godoy, to make her début with this somewhat bittersweet comedy that critically reflects on the role of women when they reach a more mature age. Somewhere between humour and complaint, the protagonist questions her family, social and work position in the midst of an internal crisis with her third husband.

The film was one of the highest grossing films in Spain in its year of release and received two nominations for the Goya awards. It starred one of the most recognised Spanish actresses of recent decades: Carmen Maura, winner of, among other awards, Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as four awards at the Goya Awards and one at the French César Awards.

In the world of cinema Lanzarote is known mainly for the quality and uniqueness of its natural exteriors, especially the volcanic areas. However, this film serves to demonstrate the versatility of the island for eminently urban filming, with scenes shot in airports, hotels, apartments, roads, docks, etc. With almost 160,000 residents at present, Lanzarote offers very modern tourist accommodation, striking traditional architecture, truly valuable historic urban centres, picturesque villages and urban centres of a certain density, such as the island’s capital Arrecife, with its population of almost 60,000.
